Ursa Farm Community Initiative

Neighbors working together to bring culture back into agriculture - We are looking for people to farm with us

Our mission at Ursa Farm is to create a model of social renewal based on the threefold ideals of freedom, fairness and fellowship, through biodynamic farming, nature education, therapeutic programs, and community building.

We invite you to be a part of our farm community.

Join the Ursa Farm Community

Working towards social renewal and agricultural regeneration for a more healthy earth, happier families, and resilient local communities.

We believe that farming should no longer be a single family operation. It is meant to nourish the local community, not only with healthy food, but also through communal gatherings and events, education, and reciprocal partnerships between neighbours. In order for small farms to remain viable in todays world, we need to create supportive communities that work together for the betterment of all.

We are looking for people who wish to collaborate & invest in the biodynamic farm we have started here. This could be through a shared property ownership model; working at the Farm School; or with their own business that aligns with Ursa Farm Community Initiative mission & values.

We are working with partners to establish a model of community farm ownership that builds shared equity out of threefold social principles.

  • Would you like to be a shareholder with a biodynamic farm?

  • Are you interested in farming or homesteading, but still want to be able to take vacations?

  • Are you looking for a community rooted in the values of threefold social living?

  • Are you wanting to live near a farm where you can enjoy the land or help when you can, but you cannot afford land yourself?

  • Are you looking to start a small business (i.e. a bakery, csa, plant nursery), and wish to collaberate with a farm?

  • Would you be interested in working at a farm and forest school? Or are you interested in Waldorf education? (training provided)

  • Do you want to live near to a biodynamic farm so you can enjoy the most nurtient-dense foods, as well as, the healing benefits of living in nature?

  • Are you interested in co-creating with others, events, workshops, gatherings, or study groups?

Please reach out to us with questions or if wish to know more.

Rudolf Steiner’s Threefold Social Principles encourage balancing autonomy and interdependence to promote well-being of all; equally considering the importance of rights, cooperative economics, and free cultural expression.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to our

Community Building Members!

The book on the right is titled "Money for a Threefold Society" by T. Michael Cox, with a dark blue and yellow cover illustration of a person using a tablet at a desk, illuminated by a lamp.

    Thank you Mike!

  • Christopher Hahn has been supporting our community initiative with practical wisdom and advice. He has a similar community endeavor in Maine, where he farms and the farm is owned by an LLC. Both Christopher and Michael Cox have met with us online to explore options for making sure that our farm remains viable for generations to come, and to help us to develop the shared farm community model that is right for our situation.

None of what you see here, the beautifully organized pages and warm artistic touches, would be possible without one amazingly talented lady. She has created such a beautiful website to help us reach out and find more people to join our work here at the farm. We are also so fortunate that she lives not too far away, and has agreed to a barter system for her services that meet both of our needs. A true example of how when we serve the other, our needs are met in return.

Elder contributions to community life are invaluable. None of these endeavors we are undertaking here would be possible without her steadfast support. Whether through practical everyday work in the house and around the farm; or with volunteering weekly to teach watercolour painting to the children of the farm school; or through being a constant source of wisdom and advice whenever we need it; we are immensely endebted and grateful that she chose to pioneer with us the beginnings of community life at Ursa Farm.

    Thank you Sharon/Mom/Granma!

Community Updates

If you wish to stay up to date on what we are doing here with the Ursa Farm Community Initiative, please click the link below which will take you to our Substack newsletter called Soul and Soil. There you can support us with a free or paid subscription. All funds go directly to supporting the infrastructure of the farm, such as fencing, machinery, or animal housing.

We are looking for guest writers to share their insights about Biodynamic farming, Waldorf and outdoor education, anthroposophical modalities of health, or community and threefolding work. These are the main subjects of focus in the Soul and Soil Newsletter.

Visit or book a stay

Visitors can come for a tea and farm tour, or book a stay for a while. We are always interested in meeting people who are interested in creating community, especially linked with farming and social programs like the Farm School.

If you are interested in a farm experience for your family, we can curate a stay to your needs. Please let us know what experiences you would be interested in.

Farm Community Initiative - Building the culture of a farm

Whether you live near or far, we need all the support we can get to bring this intiative to fruition. We will host online and in-person conversations and events for people to learn about what we are doing here, to offer support, and to inspire others to start their own farm initiatives as well. We already have benefitted from many people’s advice and support. We recognise the wisdom of our elders, and believe that we grow stronger by listening to the needs of our community. So all who wish us well, are invited to these open gatherings, and most of all we hope to meet people who wish to partner with us.

We’re working to build a farm community

Currently our goal is to build a home where new potential farm community members can live for a trial year. All our programs & events raise money to contribute towards this effort.
